Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are not playing in the IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (March 23). In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the Mumbai-based franchise against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Hardik is not playing due to a one-match suspension he is carrying from the 2024 season of the IPL, whereas Bumrah is yet to join MI’s squad for IPL 2025.

Bumrah last played a competitive match on January 5, 2025, for India against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. He is out of action these days due to a lower back injury. It has been reported that Bumrah will join the MI set-up in the coming weeks after getting fitness clearance from NCA, where he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

In Bumrah’s absence, Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult are leading MI’s pace attack against CSK and will have uncapped Andhra player Satyanarayana Raju for support. Whereas New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner, along with England all-rounder Will Jacks, will lead the charge of the spin attack.

CSK win toss

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has won the toss and opted to field first against Mumbai Indians. Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad is making his IPL debut for CSK on Sunday after joining the franchise for Rs 10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Australian pacer Nathan Ellis is also part of the playing XI along with England’s Sam Curran and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra.
