When the two teams faced each other in the 2000 Champions Trophy final, New Zealand defeated Sourav Ganguly-led India to win their first-ever ICC title. The Men in Blue are keen to turn the tables after 25 years and secure their third Champions Trophy title.
They became the joint-winners with Sri Lanka in 2002 and beat England in the 2013 final under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
India and New Zealand, who were placed in Group A in the ongoing edition, faced each other once in the league stage.
Batting first in Dubai, India set a target of 250 runs. Spinners dominated the second innings. While Varun Chakravarthy registered a five-wicket haul, Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets as well while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel picked up one scalp each.
Despite Kane Williamson contributing with a gritty 81-run knock, New Zealand fell 44 runs short of the target. After losing the last group game, the Black Caps bounced back brilliantly in the semi-final and beat South Africa by 50 runs.
India, on the other hand, overcame Australia with a four-wicket victory to qualify for the final.
