200 Catches as a Wicketkeeper
Dhoni currently holds the record for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in IPL history. Over the course of 264 matches, he has registered 190 catches and 42 stumpings, bringing his total dismissals to an impressive 232. Of these, 148 catches came while playing for Chennai Super Kings and the rest for Rising Pune Supergiants. His best performance in a single match includes four catches.
If Dhoni manages to take 10 more catches or stumpings this season, he will become the first wicketkeeper to reach the 200-mark in IPL history, a feat that could stand unchallenged for years. Among active players, Rishabh Pant is the closest, but with only 95 catches from 111 matches, he remains far behind Dhoni’s towering record. Achieving the 200-dismissal milestone would further elevate Dhoni’s status as the most successful wicketkeeper in the league’s history.

Oldest Player to Score Half-Century in IPL
Another record within Dhoni’s reach is becoming the oldest player to score a half-century in the IPL. The current record belongs to former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who scored an unbeaten 85 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 at the age of 41 years and 181 days. Dhoni, now 43, will surpass Gilchrist if he scores a half-century this season.
To achieve this, Dhoni might need to adjust his batting position, giving himself more time at the crease. His last IPL half-century came at the age of 40 years and 262 days against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Becoming CSK’s Highest Run-Scorer
Dhoni also stands on the cusp of becoming Chennai Super Kings’ highest run-scorer in IPL history. He currently has 4,669 runs for CSK, trailing only Suresh Raina, who amassed 4,687 runs. Dhoni needs just 18 runs to surpass Raina and claim this prestigious record.
If Dhoni manages to overtake Raina in CSK’s opening match, it will further solidify his legendary status within the franchise and among its passionate fanbase. The significance of this record lies in Dhoni’s long-standing association with the team – he has been the face of CSK since the inaugural IPL season in 2008.
As the whispers about this being Dhoni’s final IPL season grow louder, fans are hopeful that the iconic cricketer and former CSK captain will bow out on a high note. If Dhoni accomplishes these three milestones, he will leave behind a legacy etched in gold – not just as one of the greatest captains and finishers but also as a record-breaking wicketkeeper and batter. The 18th season of the IPL could well be the perfect swan song for ‘Captain Cool’.
