IPL 2025: Phil Salt Gives AB De Villiers Deja Vu With Jaw-Dropping Fielding At Boundary Vs RR
Phil Salt's incredible boundary save for RCB against RR in IPL 2025 reminded fans of AB de Villiers. Salt's athleticism saved five runs, contributing to RCB's fielding standards.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt reminded the team’s fans of AB de Villiers with one of the best catch attempts at the boundary during Sunday’s IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
It happened on the last ball of the 13th over in the first innings. Krunal Pandya looped the ball up on middle and off-stump and RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slogged the ball to deep mid-wicket, albeit without timing it.

Salt at the boundary jumped high and got both hands to it. He had timed his jump perfectly but realized mid-air that his body was falling over the ropes and threw the ball out. It meant that though Jaiswal didn’t get out, Salt had saved five runs for RCB, which could prove key in the second innings.

The effort was reminiscent of former RCB great de Villiers’ stunning one-handed take at the boundary during an IPL 2018 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Salt has proven to be a wonderful addition to the RCB. He has scored 143 runs in five innings so far and has been outstanding in the field despite being a wicketkeeper by trade.
Against Mumbai Indians, too, he had taken a brilliant diving catch. On that occasion he threw the ball out while falling into the ropes and parried it up to the nearby-standing Tim David.
Jaiswal eventually fell for 75 (47), taking RR to a pretty decent total of 173/4. RCB, who’ll open with Virat Kohli and Salt, will need 174 runs in 120 balls at 8.7 runs/over to win.
