Lucknow Super Giants' Digvesh Rathi Credits Sunil Narine For Inspiring His Bowling Mindset
Digvesh Rathi produced player of the match performance with bowling figures of 1/21 from his four overs.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has credited bowling veteran Sunil Narine as his inspiration. The 25-year-old Indian bowler continued his impressive rise against the Mumbai Indians with a match-winning spell on April 4. After helping his team win, Rathi expressed his joy while revealing the inspiration behind his bowling mindset. “I’m really enjoying it. I like to get batters out. I watched Sunil Narine bowl and from that time, I took to bowling," the young spinner said. “I want to make my mindset more attacking, want to be like Narine, on how he stays calm even during pressure situations," Rathi added.
Digvesh Rathi showcased his composure when the pressure was at an all-time high on Friday. Defending a total of 203 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, LSG seemed in pole position for a win. A partnership between Mumbai Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir, however, kept the five-time winners in the game. Rathi stepped up at the crucial hour and dismissed Dhir in the ninth over’s opening delivery. His economical 1/21 spell in Lucknow helped the hosts escape with a narrow 12-run victory.

Digvesh Rathi later revealed how he briefly chatted with his captain, Rishabh Pant, before the game-changing over. “Before that over, I spoke to you [Pant]," he said. “We wanted a mid-wicket but we did not have one, he looked to play through there and that move worked for us," Rathi concluded.

Earlier this season, Digvesh Rathi found himself in trouble after his controversial celebration against the Punjab Kings. The 25-year-old spinner gave PBKS opener Priyansh Arya a ‘notebook’ send-off after taking his wicket on April 1. Arya ultimately had the last laugh as the 2014 finalists went on to win the game by eight wickets. BCCI later took strict action against the LSG bowler, fining him and giving him a demerit point for his actions. “Digvesh Singh, bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings," BCCI wrote in an official statement.
Despite the setback, Digvesh Rathi has maintained solid form in the IPL 2025 season. He has taken six wickets for LSG in four matches. He will be hoping to continue his brilliant individual run when the Rishabh Pant-led side takes on reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 8.
