Answering a fan’s question on HeyCB with DK, the former India cricketer felt that Australia would be the better opponent in the semifinal stage of the Champions Trophy.
“India is playing well, but if given a preference, I would go for Australia," Karthik said.
Karthik spoke about England and Pakistan’s elimination from the Champions Trophy as well.
“If someone would have told me that Pakistan and England would get eliminated this early in the tournament when I was young. I would never believe it because we know how strong these teams are," Karthik said.
England captain Jos Buttler resigned from his position following his team’s surprise defeat to Afghanistan in Lahore.
Meanwhile, the Aussie side has already left for Dubai, while South Africa left for the same city late Saturday night ahead of the Champions Trophy semifinals, even though it remains uncertain whether their games will be held there or not.
Dubai is all set to host the first semifinal on Tuesday, with Lahore hosting the second on Wednesday.
India’s semifinal opponents, either Australia or South Africa, would be known following their last Group A game against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday.
Because of security concerns in Pakistan, India are playing all their games in Dubai. According to reports, the Aussie team have already left for Dubai following a discussion among the members of the team management.
Australia left after their game against Afghanistan, which was abandoned because of rain on Friday night in Lahore. South Africa left last night after beating England.
