22 Killed, 70 Injured As Bus Rolls Down In Gorge On Jammu-Poonch Highway

At least 22 people died while more than 70 others were left injured after a bus rolled down in a deep gorge in the Tanda Morh on the Jammu Poonch Highway in the Akhnoor area. Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched, said an official.
The bus was coming from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to the Akhnoor hospital.

“A bus carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh has met with an accident near Tanda, Akhnoor in Jammu," Deputy Commissioner Jammu said.
This comes hours after the engine of the Sampark Kranti Express derailed at Jammu railway station on Thursday, officials said. No one got injured in the incident.
As the train arrived at the railway station from New Delhi on Thursday, one wheel of the engine went off the track, causing the train to come to a halt, the officials said.
PM Modi Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex Gratia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his anguish for the loss of lives due to the bus mishap in Akhnoor.
He also announced Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased.
President Murmu Expresses Her Condolences
President Droupadi Murmu shared her deepest condolences for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
Taking to X, she said, “Pained beyond words to learn about the loss of lives in a bus accident in Akhnoor near Jammu. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured."
J&K LG Calls Reacts To Accident, Rs 5 Lakh Ex Gratia Announced
The Lieutenant Governor Of Jammu and Kashmir also took to his official account and expresses condolences for the loss of lives.
Calling the accident ‘heart-rending’, he said, “I condole the loss of lives and pray to the almighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured."
He also said, “An ex-gratia of Rs. 5 Lakh to be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs.50,000 for those injured in the tragic bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu."
