The project is a significant step in Mumbai’s efforts to promote green spaces and eco-friendly tourism. Inspired by Singapore’s famous ‘Tree Top Walk’, the 485-meter-long and 2.4-meter-wide wooden pathway is designed to provide an immersive experience in nature. The trail runs through Kamala Nehru Park and Ferozeshah Mehta Garden, two of Mumbai’s most beloved green spaces. Visitors can stroll along the elevated pathway while admiring the rich biodiversity of the area. A special highlight of the trail is the Sea Viewing Deck, where one can soak in breath-taking panoramic views of the Mumbai coastline.
Built with a combination of wooden decks, sturdy railings, and steel-reinforced foundations, the trail ensures both aesthetic appeal and safety. A well-planned lighting system has been installed, allowing visitors to enjoy the experience even in the evening. Additionally, an Access Control System is in place to regulate foot traffic, along with emergency exit routes for added security.
The Elevated Nature Trail is home to over 100 species of plants and trees, including Gulmohar, Almond, Jamun, Banyan, Peepal, and Sita Ashok. The lush greenery attracts several bird species, such as koels, parakeets, bulbuls, kingfishers, and drongos. Visitors may also spot lizards, pythons, and garden skinks in their natural habitat. For Mumbaikars craving a break from the city’s hustle, this nature trail offers a peaceful retreat where they can connect with nature without leaving the city.
Developed by the BMC’s Hydraulic Engineer Department, this project is a step towards promoting eco-tourism and urban biodiversity. It aims to encourage citizens to appreciate Mumbai’s green spaces and inspire a sense of environmental responsibility. With the inauguration around the corner, the BMC invites Mumbaikars and tourists to experience this one-of-a-kind Elevated Nature Trail—a refreshing escape amidst the concrete jungle of Mumbai.
