Lavrov noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his first foreign visit to Russia upon his re-election last year. “Now it’s our turn," he added.
Lavrov’s remarks came at a conference titled “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda". The meeting was organised by the Russian International Affairs Council or RIAC.
Notably, Prime Minister Modi was one of the few leaders in 2024 to visit both Moscow and Kyiv amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The Prime Minister also travelled to Russia in October last year to attend the BRICS Summit.
Putin last travelled to India in December 2021 for an annual summit and the proposed visit will be his first since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022.
