However, this can cause significant damage to the unit. Their droppings, nests, and feathers make the AC unit extremely dirty, and cleaning it becomes a challenge, as removing the nest is not always an option. So, what can be done to prevent birds from nesting on the AC unit and making it dirty?

How To Keep Birds Away From The Air Conditioner
Install Bird Spikes
If pigeons, squirrels, or other birds frequently build nests in your AC unit, installing bird spikes is an effective solution. These transparent, long, pointed spikes are specially designed to prevent birds from sitting on AC units, balconies, railings, and windows. Placing them on the AC unit will deter birds.
Use an AC Cover
When the AC is not in use, especially before winter or when you are away, always cover it. An AC cover prevents birds from accessing the unit and protects it from dust, bird droppings, and nesting materials.
Reposition Bird Feeders
If you have placed a bird feeder nearby, it may attract birds looking for a nesting spot. In such a case, move the feeder to a location far from the AC unit.
Seal Any Gaps
If there are gaps near the AC unit, seal them, as birds can enter these spaces to build nests. Once they settle in, they will continue to sit on the unit and create a mess.
Remove Nests Early
If birds begin to build a nest on your AC unit, remove it immediately. Once they lay eggs or hatch chicks, it will be much more difficult to relocate them.
DIY Thermocol Sheet Trick
Cut a thermocol sheet to fit the width of the AC unit and insert 20–25 nails into it. Then, fix this thermocol sheet on top of the unit. This is a simple and cost-effective way to keep pigeons, squirrels, and other birds away.
