He was the first commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj, the army of the Sikh Empire.

Akshay also hinted at a possible Kesari 4 and added, “I want to tell everyone about the brave people of Punjab. I want to make Kesari 3 and Kesari 4 also. There are so many chapters. The first Kesari film was released in 2019. It followed the events leading to the Battle of Saragarhi, a battle between 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army and 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen in 1897. Kesari: Chapter 2 is based on the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

During the trailer launch event, Akshay also mentioned why Kesari Chapter 2 is “personal" for him and added, “My dad was born just opposite Jallianwala Bagh. My grandfather has seen all this. This is very personal and very important. Baaki Karan Johar ne film gusse vich banaye kyunki inn vich gussa itna hai. Jo kuch hua hai, jitni jitni main kahaniyan sun raha hu, mere daddy dassaya vick, mere Dadaji dassaya vich, Karan Tyagi sara kuch samjhaya. Sanakaran Nair grandson yahan baithe hue hai. Unhone ne book likha hai uspe yeh film banaya hai."

Besides Akshay, Kesari Chapter 2 also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in key roles. Helmed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film will hit theatres on April 13.
