Selena Gomez recently addressed the emotional challenges she faces due to public judgement particularly when it comes to her weight. During a discussion on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast with her fiance Benny Blanco, the 32-year-old singer explained the emotional toll of online criticism, saying, “I fall victim to looking at things. It doesn’t add anything to your life. It’s just so difficult from the choices, the people you date. It’s like nobody cares about that stuff with men."

She said the constant scrutiny has deeply affected her. “I think we just carry a lot. My weight’s a big one too. Everybody just has something to say and it’s really making me sad. Not even sad—no I’m not a victim—but I think it’s made me a tad bitter. And I feel really guilty for saying that. But it’s true," the singer said.

Selena’s health struggles have been a central part of her journey. She has been open about her lupus diagnosis which she first revealed in 2015. Last year, after facing body-shaming comments following a premiere event, the actress shared that she has also been battling Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), a condition that affects her weight.

During the podcast, The Only Murders in the Building star discussed how women are often judged more harshly for their appearance, saying, “This isn’t news to anybody that women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance, to what they are wearing, to everything."

She acknowledged the challenges she faces when preparing for public events, stating, “When I get prepared for an event, 90 percent of the time I’m saying, ‘I just hope I can take the picture and sit down.’"

Selena also opened up about the judgment she faces regarding her identity. She described how she is often made to feel like she’s not “white enough" or “Mexican enough."

“There’s just so many different things that come up in my face that I just can’t help but see," she added.

To deal with the negativity and pressure, Selena revealed that she often steps away from online platforms which help her feel better.

“But I do most of the time ignore everything. I don’t have anything on my phone at that moment. So, there are ways to combat it," she added.

On March 21, Selena and Benny released their album I Said I Love You First under SMG Music LLC, Friends Keep Secrets, and Interscope Records. The 14-track album includes collaborations with Gracie Abrams, Charli XCX, Tainy and J Balvin.
