Sara Ali Khan Says Her GPay Is Linked To Mom Amrita Singh: 'I Can’t Even Book A Ticket Without Her’
Sara Ali Khan may be a Bollywood star, but she’s refreshingly grounded when it comes to money.

Sara Ali Khan might live a glamorous life on-screen, but in real life, she’s anything but extravagant. The actor, who spent much of 2023 promoting her film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, revealed that she strongly relates to the middle-class character she portrayed—especially when it comes to money.
During the film’s promotions, Sara made headlines for talking about her modest spending habits. She mentioned skipping international roaming while traveling and even stopping her mother, Amrita Singh, from buying expensive towels. “I am aware and mindful about where I spend my money. I don’t enjoy spending money frivolously. But yes, of course, I think a little bit of splurging, celebrating, if you want to, why not?" she said recently at the Times Now Summit 2025.

She added that her motivation for being frugal stems from her love for travel. “Since I like to travel, I save up for that. That’s where I’d rather put my money," she said.
Sara also shared that her mother continues to manage her finances completely. “I have learnt about the pie. I have learnt that you should invest small amounts in different sectors. Of course, one is advised. My mom handles my money entirely. Even my GPay account is linked to her… The OTPs come on her phone," she said, laughing. When the interviewer reacted with surprise and joked that it sounded like she was still getting pocket money, Sara replied, “Pocket money? I can’t even book a ticket without the OTP."
She went on to say that she invests in real estate, stocks, and gold bonds—though all of it is under the watchful eye of her mother.
Her frugal nature even became a topic of discussion on The Kapil Sharma Show, where her Zara Hatke Zara Bachke co-star Vicky Kaushal shared a funny behind-the-scenes moment. “She was scolding Amrita ma’am. I asked what happened and she said, ‘Mummy ko akal hi nahi hai; 1600 rupaiye ka toliya le aayi hai.’ She was really going at her," he laughed.
Sara backed it up, saying, “Arre, 1600 rupaiye ka toliya kaun kharidta hai? Vanity van mein muft ke 2-3 toliye taang ke rakhte hai ye log, unhi me se koi use kar lo."
While most expect film stars to live lavishly, Sara Ali Khan proves she’s not afraid to budget, plan, and even scold her mom to keep things in check.
