In a cruel and cold final to forget for Sascha, World No.1 Jannik Sinner would dismantle German Alexander Zverev in three straight sets to win the 2025 Australian Open, the third Grand Slam of his career, on Sunday.

With his win, Sinner secured a third Grand Slam crown and second at the Australian Open after his maiden triumph over Daniil Medvedev last year.

Only three other men have managed the feat on Rod Laver Arena since the turn of the century — Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Coming into the final, what was at stake for Sinner was not just the title, but rather a chance at redemption. An opportunity to stake his claim as the best in the world, after months of apprehension from the world after his doping scandal.

Zverev, on the other hand, was in the same boat as Madison Keys yesterday: hunting for his first-ever Major title, to write his name in the history books.

He held a 4-2 record over the Italian, but the 27-year-old knew all too well that’s he’s fallen short when it’s mattered most on tennis’s biggest stages.

Sinner came out guns blazing, pummeling Zverev in a perfect game to set the tone for the encounter. An unfazed Zverev fought back, clinching the second game with ease, throwing out the gauntlet to the World No.1 for the remainder of the battle.

What would ensue was a battle of will, as both players exchanged games back and forth, as the first set arrived at a standstill at 3-3.

But, the momentum would finally change, as Sinner broke the World No.2 on his serve to seal two straight games, and take the slender 5-3 lead.

With his back against the wall early, it was crucial for Zverev to claw his way back into the set, if he were to keep the pressure on the Italian. But, an unrelenting Sinner, who showed no signs of weakness, would register yet another perfect game to seal the first set 6-3 and draw first blood in the encounter.

Sascha needed to clean up on his unforced errors, an attribute that was gifting Sinner easy points on the run. Sinner, on the other hand, just needed to keep going.

Yet another slog fest ensued in the second set. Zverev battled it out against an in-sync Sinner to not lose first-serve advantage, while Sinner continued to blitz with the serve in his hand.

The fiery forehand of Sinner was the ultimate haymaker, aiding the top seed to counter anything that Zverev threw at him.

Sascha though weathered the storm as the set arrived at yet another crucial standpoint at 4-4.

Zverev though would would dig deep to take the slender 6-5 advantage, taking Sinner to the 12th game of the set with his eyes set on evening the odds.

A display of dropshots, volleys and smashes would follow, as the crowds gasped in sheer wonder of the two competitors. But, ultimately Sinner would push to a tiebreak — a contest where the Italian has not stumbled once in the tournament so far.

In a cruel and cold turn of events, Zverev’s luck would run out as Sinner would edge out the German in the tiebreak 7-4, to seal the second set and retain his undefeated streak.

    It seemed as if Zverev’s arsenal was just not deep enough to oust the Italian, who continued to find answers at the turn of disaster without fail.

    Sascha’s hopes would come crashing in the final set as well, as Sinner would capture the break point in the 6th game, and go to on seal the third set 6-3 and secure his second Australian Open title.
