Drunk Man Calls UP Police Over 250 Grams Of Potatoes Missing From His Home
When police arrived at the scene, the officers were shocked to learn that the stolen item was just a few potatoes.

In a bizarre turn of events, a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi reported to the police that 250 grams of potatoes were stolen from his home. This peculiar emergency call was made shortly before Diwali by Vijay Verma. The Mannapurwa resident peeled the potatoes and kept them, thinking he would cook them after returning home. However, when the potatoes weren’t found, he rang the UP-112 helpline, fuming and demanding an official probe into the theft.
When police arrived at the scene, the officers were shocked to learn that the stolen item was just a few potatoes, The Times of India reported. A brief video of the encounter was shared online. Verma emphatically declared, “This is what needs to be investigated," although confessing to drinking alcohol earlier in the night.

To defend his call, Verma said, “Yes, I work hard all day and have a small drink in the evening. But this isn’t about alcohol; it’s about the missing potatoes," pointing at what he considered a problem he wanted to fix.
The situation became rather a hit on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). While some users appreciated the response from the police, saying they were swift, others argued such fake calls should not be made because they waste resources that could otherwise be deployed to actual emergencies.
A user hilariously commented, “Vijay Verma is making our district famous. Thanks, brother. Strict action should be taken against anyone who has stolen his 250-gram peeled potatoes."
A user asked, “Is it actually fair use of police?"
Another user added, “That’s right, a theft is a theft, whether it’s potatoes or gold!"
“This guy really took “The police are here to serve the people" to a whole new level!," a user commented.
“What’s more surprising, in a pleasant way, is that the police chose to actually respond with professionalism," read a comment.
“Only in India! Calling the police for 250 grams of potatoes is a new one. Guess potatoes are priceless these days!," another comment read.
The video has over 3 lakh views on the social media platform.
