However, opportunistic individuals lurk, their eyes fixed on these offerings. As soon as an item is released, groups, including children and women, swiftly gather to loot them. Many have taken to social media to share videos of these robberies, each more surprising than the last.

Snatched From Hands

The Maha Kumbh Mela along with pilgrims, also attracted individuals who profit from collecting and reselling the offerings cast into the river. These individuals retrieve coconuts, chunris, and other items, later selling them in shops.

Shopkeepers often employ children and women to collect these items, enabling them to resell coconuts and other religious materials. Initially, these items were collected after devotees released them. However, as the Maha Kumbh Mela nears its end, these items are now snatched directly from people’s hands.

In one such incident, a video shared on social media shows a woman offering a coconut, chunri, and other religious items to the Sangam, seeking atonement for her sins.

However, as she places them in the water, a group of children surrounding her swiftly snatch the items from her hands. The woman is visibly shocked by this brazen act, her surprise evident on her face. Such incidents are reportedly happening to many individuals bathing in the Sangam.
