Ghaziabad: Hindon Airport Expansion On The Cards As Passenger Numbers Soar
The airport, which shares a runway with the Indian Air Force base at Hindon, only operates civil flights between sunrise and sunset.

Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad is set to expand as it approaches full capacity, handling 600 passengers daily against its limit of 700–800, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have confirmed.
The airport has seen a rapid rise in demand, with recent flights launched to Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jammu. A new route to Bhubaneswar is also in the pipeline, with airlines already opening bookings. Since 2024, flights to Adampur, Nanded, Kishangarh, Ludhiana, and Bathinda have also been operational.

Expansion Plans Underway
With high passenger load and airlines showing increasing interest, Hindon Airport is now considering a major expansion. The airport currently operates from the Indian Air Force base at Hindon, with civil flights permitted only during daylight hours.
“With increasing passenger numbers, expansion is already being considered at the headquarters level. Currently, we have doubled capacity using local resources, adding more seating and security facilities," said Umesh Yadav, Hindon Airport’s director, as per Hindustan Times.
Connectivity to Improve Further
Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg has urged AAI to add flights to key destinations like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Lucknow. Officials have also raised concerns about improving traffic management on Wazirabad Road, installing better signage, and enhancing last-mile connectivity.
Hindon Airport, located about 25 km from Delhi, is well-connected via the Hindon Elevated Road and Delhi Metro. By June 2025, it will get a direct link to the Sahibabad RRTS station, further boosting its accessibility.
