Bikramjit Singh, a young farmer from Ludhiana, Punjab, has demonstrated that farming is not just a means of livelihood but can also be a thriving business and a platform for development.

Recognising the significance of organic farming, Bikramjit turned it into a commercial enterprise, establishing a company worth Rs 100 crore. He has taken bold steps to empower local farmers using agricultural technology and innovative methods, positioning himself at the forefront of organic farming. His successful journey has become a source of inspiration for many young farmers.

    Bikramjit’s path from agriculture to industry is notable. After completing his graduation in 2005, he initially worked in an insurance company while starting farming on 2.75 acres of land. Despite facing losses in his pomegranate plantation, he switched to lemon farming.

    Although he completed his MBA in 2010 and entered the banking sector, his true passion lay in farming. “I quit my job in 2014. At that time, I was making good money from farming," he recalls.

    Bikramjit expanded organic farming to 200 acres of leased land, cultivating fruit orchards on 100 acres and growing wheat, basmati rice, corn, sugarcane, and vegetables on the remaining 100 acres.

    His passion for organic farming led him to contract farming, and now, 600 farmers are practising organic farming on 8,000 acres of land. “We provide farmers with prices above the minimum support price, ensuring a good income," he explains.

    To further his business and promote organic farming, Bikramjit founded the brand ‘Healthy Earth.’ “We have more than 216 organic products available in our stores," he says. Additionally, he has started organic food restaurants. “Ragi is the main attraction on our menu; it is a nutritional powerhouse," he notes.

    Bikramjit is also committed to inspiring the youth. “Even though my cousins have gone abroad, I wanted to create opportunities in Punjab," he says.

    Over the last two years, he has played a key role in preventing hundreds of youth from going abroad by providing better livelihoods to farmers. Through an organisation called ‘Generation of Farming,’ he has revolutionised organic farming.

    “We are planning to open 100 restaurants and 100 grocery stores," he shares, highlighting his aim to create jobs in agriculture and retail. “We will provide organic food at competitive prices in our stores," he believes.
