The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start from March 22. This year once again, 10 teams will compete against each other to win the big prize. The tournament opener is set to be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the final is also scheduled to take place at the same venue on May 25.

But ahead of the start of the 18th season of IPL, many star players are ruled out due to injury-related issues, whereas there’s suspense over participation over some others.

    Mayank Yadav: Lucknow Super Giants retained Indian pacer Mayank Yadav for Rs 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. But according to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday (March 11), the 22-year-old fast bowler from Delhi, who also made his India debut last year, is set to miss the first half of IPL 2025. As per the available information, Mayank is recovering from a lumbar stress injury and has just resumed bowling at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

    Jasprit Bumrah: Legendary Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was retained for Rs 18 crore by five-time champions Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 31-year-old star has been out of action since January 5, 2025, due to a lower back injury. While Bumrah has resumed bowling, it has been reported that he will miss the two weeks of the IPL 2025.

    Hardik Pandya: Captain Hardik Pandya will miss Mumbai Indians’ first match of IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 23. Hardik, who made his IPL captaincy debut for MI last season, was suspended for one match after MI’s last group stage match of IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants due to slow over rate, and as a result, he will not be available for selection.

    Mitchell Marsh: Australia’s T20I captain Mitchell Marsh, who was signed by LSG for Rs 3.40 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, could miss the start of IPL 2025 due to a back problem. Due to the lower back pain and dysfunction, Marsh was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 in January, and it was reported then that he could miss the IPL as well.
