Test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has been conferred the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer 2023-24 in the men’s category while senior opener Smriti Mandhana bagged the corresponding honor for women, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Bumrah was the men’s team’s best bowler in 2024, playing a huge role in the Test wins over England and Bangladesh at home, the men’s T20 World Cup triumph and winning the Player of the Series in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, although in a losing cause.

Meanwhile, Mandhana had a world-beating year in ODIs, scoring 747 runs at an average of 57.46 and an impressive strike rate of 95.15. Her exploits included four ODI centuries, a record in the women’s game. She was also awarded the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Bumrah, too, was showered with numerous ICC honors, including the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year and the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for the Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

In Tests, Bumrah finished 2025 with 71 wickets in 13 matches at a brilliant average of 14.92. It was the second-best season among fast bowlers after former India captain Kapil Dev’s 100 wickets in 1983.

The right-arm pacer was at his peak in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and the World Cup in the USA and Barbados, snaffling 32 wickets in five Tests and 15 wickets at a jaw-dropping average of 8.26, respectively.

This is the third time Bumrah has won the Polly Umrigar Award after 2018-19 and 2021-22. Only Virat Kohli (five) has won it more times than him. Sachin Tendulkar and Ravichandran Ashwin (two each) are next in the list. Shubman Gill won it last year for his exceptional performances in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar to be conferred Lifetime Achievement awards

Meanwhile, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar will be conferred with the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. Tendulkar, 51, played 664 international games for India and holds the record for the highest number of Test runs (15,921) and ODI runs (18,426) in history.
