Star Bangladesh allrounder Shakib al Hasan has cleared the bowling action reassessment test after he was banned for a few months due to a suspect bowling action and has been subjected to widespread criticism, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

Shakib couldn’t clear the test twice but the latest results suggest that Shakib has managed to clear the air around his bowling action.

The development comes as a massive sigh of relief for Shakib who had been excluded from Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy team as the selectors did not want to pick him as a specialist batter.

Bangladesh lost their Champions Trophy games to India and New Zealand, with their final group stage game against hosts Pakistan washed out.

Having been suspended to bowl meant that Shakib could not be part of the Champions Trophy which he had earmarked as a farewell tournament in international cricket.

Shakib’s exclusion from the Champions Trophy team might have marked the end of his ODI career, with the next big tournament only the 2027 ODI World Cup, by which time he will be 40 years old.

After two failed tests, Shakib finally turned third-time lucky, clearing his latest bowling action test in England.

“The news is right (passing the bowling test) and I am cleared to bowl again," Shakib said while speaking to Cricbuzz.

Shakib’s bowling action first came under scrutiny during a County Championship game for Surrey against Somerset in September.

The England Cricket Board suspended him after an independent evaluation that declared his action illegal.

Shakib failed a test of his bowling action for the second time in January after being suspended from bowling in top-flight domestic and international cricket.

This latest independent re-assessment of Shakib’s action took place at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai in December.

“Consequently, the player’s existing suspension from bowling in international cricket following the initial independent assessment at the testing centre of Loughborough University in the UK also remains in place," Bangladesh Cricket Board had said in a statement in January.

Shakib was last seen in action in the Abu Dhabi T10 in November and hasn’t played any cricket since then.
