IPL 2025: Can New Skipper Rishabh Pant Power LSG To The Promised Land?
Lucknow Super Giants Team Preview IPL 2025: Pant and co. will be aiming to make a statement as a fiery LSG looks to take the next step ahead under new leadership.

Lucknow Super Giants may have been one of the latest franchises to enter the IPL, but they have consistently shown signs of growth in the three seasons they have existed so far.
The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise made their intentions for a major change known in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, bringing in swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for a walloping Rs 27 crore in place of their previous skipper, KL Rahul, whom they let go of.

LSG brought in absolute firepower in the Mega Auction, securing the likes of Pant, David Miller, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran, whilst also honing in on their domestic pace attack, strengthened by the likes of scorching pace sensation Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Akash Deep, and Avesh Khan.
The presence of quality all-rounders such as Mitchell Marsh also gives LSG exceptional tactical flexibility, allowing them to adapt their strategy based on match conditions and opposition weaknesses.
But, with LSG’s pace attack fighting to attain fitness from injury, and a seeming lack of a death-over specialist still a mystery, new head coach Zaheer Khan and co. have their work cut out to find solutions within the new ranks.
How LSG Fared In IPL 2024
LSG had a challenging 2024 season, finishing 7th in the league standings with 14 points from seven wins and seven losses. Despite some notable individual performances, the team struggled to find consistent form and ultimately missed a playoff spot.
KL Rahul, the team’s captain, was one of the standout performers, finishing as the top run-scorer for LSG with 465 runs in 13 matches. His leadership and batting were crucial in several of the team’s victories, but a lack of support from others during critical moments left LSG on the fringes of the playoffs.
Emerging as a promising fast bowler was Mayank Yadav, who impressed with his pace, regularly clocking speeds up to 156 km/h. His strong debut performances suggested that he could be a prospect for India.
However, the team’s inconsistency, especially in the middle phase of the season, proved costly. LSG began well, securing four wins in the early part of the tournament, but their momentum faded as they struggled in key matches. This inconsistency meant they couldn’t put together a sustained challenge for the playoffs.
