'Just Takes One Hit From The Middle Of The Bat': Ex-IPL Star Recalls MS Dhoni's Powerful Advice Amid CSK's Slump
Amidst Chennai Super Kings' slump in IPL 2025, the former Bengal cricketer, Shreevats Goswami recalled MS Dhoni's powerful advice regarding batting form.
The former wicketkeeper-batter from Bengal and IPL veteran, Shreevats Goswami, opened up on the whole debacle regarding the ageing MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings’ poor run of form in the Indian Premier League 2025.
CSK have been far from their best as they suffered three consecutive defeats in the league stages after their win against Mumbai Indians in their season-opener at home. With the losses, Dhoni’s place in the side has also come under scrutiny, with many questioning if the former captain and World Cup-winner has what it takes to contribute more with the bat whilst going up in the batting order.

In a post shared on his official handle on X (formerly known as Twitter), Goswami acknowledged the gravity of deciding such a move regarding the position of Dhoni in the CSK setup and also cited the entertainment and business side of things as things that need to be factored in.
The former IPL player also highlighted that Dhoni’s lack of runs may have a slight role to play, but the team as a collective has been lacking that finishing power, and also called on possibly trying Shivam Dube to bolster the runs coming in the late stretch of the innings.

Goswami, however, revealed what Dhoni has mentioned regarding form during his conversation with the big man during his athletic prime.
“The only time I got to speak to him was when Bengal played Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final. I clearly remember what he told me — “Nobody has seen form. It’s something within. Sometimes, you can even fake that you’re in form with your body language. And it just takes one hit from the middle of the bat to truly feel it again," that line stuck with me forever," he shared.
Perhaps it means that Dhoni just needs the one hit to find himself back at his best. But the results so far have not been ideal for the five-time champions. With Dhoni’s retirement coming sooner rather than later, the franchise would want to muster up their best performances and deliver to give their icon the perfect send-off.
