Akash Deep joined Lucknow Super Giants ahead of their IPL match against Mumbai Indians on April 4. Deep, recovering from a back injury, boosts LSG's morale amid injuries.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) received a big boost with India pacer Akash Deep joining the team camp ahead of their IPL fixture against the Mumbai Indians. The Rishabh Pant-led side are scheduled to face the five-time champions on April 4 at their home, the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Deep joined the LSG camp on Wednesday night, a couple of days before the high-octane affair. The 28-year-old fast bowler didn’t feature in LSG’s previous three matches because he was recovering from a back injury.

LSG’s official account has now shared a glimpse of Deep’s return to the senior team on X (formerly Twitter). “Akash Deep is in the house," they wrote.

In the video, Deep is seen arriving at the premises in a white MUV. He was rocking a beige shirt and a pair of light blue jeans as he entered the lobby.
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh greeted Deep at the entry gate, clapping for the Indian bowler with a wide smile on his face. Deep humbly saluted his LSG teammate before sharing a hug. The 28-year-old also shook South Africa batter David Miller’s hand before catching up with the rest of the squad.
Deep picked up a back injury during the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He has not featured in a competitive match since December 2024.
Deep has yet to debut for the Rishabh Pant-led side, last playing a T20 game in the 2024 edition of the IPL. He represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in one match against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Deep has competed in eight games for RCB since 2022, taking seven wickets.
LSG signed him for Rs 8 crore at the 2025 mega auction. He has picked up 49 wickets in 42 T20s in his career.
Deep’s inclusion in the LSG squad will likely boost the team’s morale amid numerous injuries that have plagued them. Mayank Yadav’s recovery time from a lumbar stress injury has increased due to another toe injury. Mohsin Khan, meanwhile, was ruled out of IPL 2025 after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last December.
The duo of Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan has been doing the majority of the heavy lifting in LSG’s fast-bowling department. LSG has only secured one win in their IPL 2025 season so far. With Deep’s arrival, the team will be looking to climb up the table for a shot at the playoff stage.
