MS Dhoni Breaks Suresh Raina's Record To Become CSK's Leading Run Scorer In IPL History

Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, broke Suresh Raina’s record of 4687 runs on Friday (March 28) to become CSK’s all-time leading run scorer in the world’s richest franchise cricket league. The 43-year-old Dhoni needed 19 runs on Friday to go past Raina’s tally, and he achieved the objective by hammering RCB all-rounder Krunal Pandya for a maximum on the third ball of the 20th over of the run chase.
Dhoni, who remained unbeaten on 30 runs from 16 balls in the CSK-RCB IPL 2025 match, has 4699 runs to his name now in 236 IPL matches for CSK.

Raina, on the other hand, finished his IPL career with 4687 runs in 176 matches for Chennai Super Kings.
Dhoni, who is the most capped player in IPL history, has scored 22 half-centuries in IPL for CSK and has 224 sixes and 333 fours to his name.

CSK lose by 50 runs
Dhoni came out to bat at No. 9 for CSK on Friday, but despite scoring 30 runs, he failed to save the five-time champions from the embarrassment of losing the IPL match against RCB for only the second time in Chennai.
RCB, after being invited to bat first by CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on Friday, posted a total of 196/7 in 20 overs and then restricted CSK to 146 for 8. For RCB, captain Rajat Patidar scored 51 runs from 32 balls, and for his superb batting performance, he also won the Player of the Match award. Apart from him, Phil Salt scored 32 runs from 16 balls for RCB, and Virat Kohli made 31 from 30 balls.
Noor Ahmad was once again finished as top wicket-taker for CSK. He finished the match with figures of three wickets for 36 runs in four overs, and Matheesha Pathirana got rid of two RCB batters.
For RCB, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood picked up three wickets for 21 runs in four overs and Yash Dayal finished with 2 for 18 in three overs.
