Ravichandran Ashwin Honoured With Street Named After Him In Hometown Chennai
In a council meeting of the Greater Chennai Corporation on Friday, Mayor R Priya proposed the move to rename Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in Kodambakkam, Chennai to ‘Ravichandran Ashwin Street’ for his contributions and services to the nation in the field of cricket.

Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin became the latest in the line of iconic sportsmen to receive the honour of having a street in his hometown named after him.
In a council meeting of the Greater Chennai Corporation on Friday, Mayor R Priya proposed the move to rename Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in Kodambakkam, Chennai to ‘Ravichandran Ashwin Street’ for his contributions and services to the nation in the field of cricket. The move was set in motion following a request from R. Karthik, COO of Carrom Ball Events and Marketing Private Limited, owned by Ashwin.

Ashwin, who pulled curtains on his international career in a rather unceremonious fashion midway through India’s tour of Australia last year, enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the men in blue across formats as he shattered multiple long-standing records with his imaginative and creative bowling.
The 38-year-old spinner, who was part of the title-winning Indian team at the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy, both under the leadership of skipper MS Dhoni, will reunite with the legendary skipper at the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League following his return to the joint-most successful franchise in the tournament, Chennai Super Kings.
CSK, who heralded Ashwin into superstardom following his inspirational spell with the side from the TN Capital city between 2008 and 2015, made his return to the MA Chidambaram Stadium as the five-time champions splashed out Rs 9.75 Crore to rope in the spinner.
Ashwin has over a century of Test caps for India and stands as the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the nation in whites with 537 scalps under his belt in whites, while also managing 156 dismissals in his 116 ODI outings for the men in blue.
Ashwin also stands sixth on the list of all-time wicket-takers list in the IPL with 180 wickets in his 212 games for five different sides including CSK, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants and Delhi Capitals.
The Chennai-born spinner, will look to further his tally in the upcoming season of the money-rich T20 tournament which is slated to get underway on the Saturday with holders Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens.
