A day before the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian thinktank comprising head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma and batting superstar Virat Kohli was involved in an intense discussion near the pitch that will be used for the title clash in Dubai on Sunday. India will face New Zealand in the finale at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Despite India being quite familiar with the Dubai conditions having played all their matches of the tournament here, the pitch seems to have become an important talking point for the former champions.

As per news agency PTI, the trio met for nearly 20 minutes before the start of India’s net sessions on Saturday.

On the other hand, as per The Indian Express, it was Gambhir and Rohit who first engaged in an animated chat that lasted 10 minutes before the India skipper asked Kohli, playing a game of foot-volley, to join them.

So far, the pitches used for the Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, have been slow and more conducive to spinners. However, a fresh pitch, used for the first semifinal between India and Australia, has led to a little confusion considering how it played out.

As the match progressed, it got better for batting. Additionally, Dubai was cooler at the start of the tournament but midway through this week, it’s gotten hotter.

How it impacts the decision at the toss?

Well, should the temperature continue to rise, the dew could come into play meaning team winning toss will prefer chasing. It could impact India’s strategy of picking four spinners in their playing XI which has been put into use for their previous two matches.

India won their first two matches of the competition with an unchanged playing XI that featured three pacers and three spinners. Once their semifinal spot was confirmed, they experimented and dropped a pacer for another specialist spinner, a change that has given them rich dividends.
