'Simple Joys': Devdutt Padikkal Buys Cricket Gear For A Young Australian Fan

Young Indian cricketer Devdutt Padikkal has won thousands of hearts with an adorable gesture in Australia. The left-handed batter recently shared a heartwarming post on Instagram where he narrated a memorable interaction with a young fan and how he bought cricket equipment for him.
Padikkal was in Australia for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and featured for India in the first Test in Perth. Having been dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Padikkal scored 25 runs in the second innings. India won that Test by 295 runs, though the visitors went on to lose the series 3-1.

“Saw this little kid at the cricket store today with his mom, all excited looking for a new bat and other gear. Reminded me of my childhood and how special these days at the store used to be. Offered to give him whatever he wanted on the day hoping to make his day a little bit more special. Simple joys," Padikkal wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself along with the fan on his story.
Padikkal has represented India in two Test matches and as many T20Is. The 24-year-old has a half-century under his belt in Test cricket against England after making his Test debut in March 2024.
Before the series, Padikkal had played in both the unofficial Tests for India A against Australia A in November 2024, scoring 151 runs in four innings. His best knock against Australia A was 88 in Mackay. Before that, he hit three half-centuries in as many Duleep Trophy games with a best score of 92 last year.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Padikkal has played in 64 matches and scored 1559 runs at a strike rate of 123.14. Padikkal has one century and nine half centuries to his name in the IPL.
Padikkal had a brilliant outing in his maiden IPL campaign in 2020 with 473 runs at a strike rate of 124.8 that season. Padikkal had scored his solitary IPL ton in 2021.
He will once again be seen in action in the next edition of the IPL plying his trade for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after being signed for Rs 2 crore at the IPL 2025 auction.
