SRH were repaid for their faith in maverick batter Ishan Kishan as the Rs 11.25 Crore purchase demonstrated his abilities with the willow on his debut for the Hyderabad-based team with a sparkling maiden ton as he stood unbeaten at 106 in 47 deliveries as he took the RR bowling attack to the cleaners.

SRH posted a mammoth 286-run total for a loss of 6 wickets thanks to their rampant batters as Kishan’s century was complemented by Travis Head’s 67-run knock. The Australian opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma, who fell for 24 off 11 deliveries to Maheesh Theekshana following a quick start to the game. Head and Kishan put up an 85-run stand before Head was scalped by Tushar Deshpande.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with quickfire 30 and 34-run knocks before being removed by Theekshana and Sandeep Sharma respectively. Deshpande scalped Aniket Verma and Abhinav Manohar for 7 and 0 runs to complete a three-fer, but it did not amount to much as SRH had cruised to a monumental total riding on Kishan’s triple-figure showing which included 10 fours and 6 sixes.

Jofra Archer had a nightmare outing at Hyderabad on the day as he returned with the most expensive bowling figures in the history of the tournament leaking 76 runs in his 4 overs without picking up a wicket, on a day Riyan Parag became the fourth youngest skipper in the IPL as he stood-in for full-time captain Sanju Samson, who was not cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence to keep wickets and could only come in as an impact sub to bat.

Samson opened the chase with a 16-run over off Mohammed Shami but had to watch Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Parag fall cheaply for scores of 1 and 4 to Simarjeet Singh as RR lost early wickets.

Nitish Rana’s scalp compounded Rajasthan’s woes as the southpaw was dismissed for 11 runs by Shami, while Samson kept plugging away at the other end.

The Royals found some stability through Samson’s partnership with Dhruv Jurel as the pair slammed a half-century each. Samson required just 27 deliveries to reach the landmark, while Jurel duplicated it shortly after.

Samson added 66 runs before falling to Harshal Patel as he knocked one onto Klaasen behind the wickets before Jurel was removed by Adam Zampa after making 70 runs off just 35 deliveries.

Shubham Dubey and Shimron Hetmyer took charge following the fall of their set-batters and did well to keep the opposition on their toes as they brought up a 50-run partnership in 22 deliveries.

Hetmyer added 42 runs off 23 balls before being scalped by Patel for his second of the day while Dubey remained unbeaten on 34. However, the target proved to be too much for the Royals as SRH secured a 44-run win to get off the mark.
