Sunrisers Hyderabad Pick Protea Allrounder As Replacement For Injured Brydon Carse
Brydon Carse is now ruled out of IPL 2025 because of the injury, and his replacement, Wiaan Mulder, will join Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 75 lakh.
IPL 2024 runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday picked 27-year-old South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for his England counterpart Brydon Carse, who suffered a toe injury and was ruled out of the ongoing Champions Trophy as well.
Carse is now ruled out of IPL 2025 because of the injury, and his replacement, Mulder, will join Hyderabad for Rs 75 lakh. Carse was picked at his base price of Rs 1 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction last year.

Mulder has played 11 T20Is in addition to 18 Tests and 25 ODIs. He has picked 60 wickets in international cricket and has scored 970 international runs.

Earlier, Carse missed Englandâs training session on February 24 because of the injury, which has required constant care during his playing career.
While Carse was deemed fit enough to play against Australia on Saturday, February 22, his discomfort was visible on the field and in the scorecard, ending as the most expensive bowler on the day with an economy rate of 9.85.
The problem with the toe started as a blister during the recent white-ball series in India, which needed stitches and saw Carse miss the last two ODIs. According to reports, the injury got worse and might need further treatment.
As such, Carse was withdrawn from Englandâs 15-man team ahead of their Group B encounter with Afghanistan in Lahore, with their last game against South Africa played in Karachi on Saturday, March 1.
For Carse, this setback comes at the end of what has been a good but tiring winter. After serving a three-month ban late last year for historic gambling offences, he has been touring since the end of last season.
Who Is Wiaan Mulder
An all-rounder from Gauteng, Mulder made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in East London in 2017. He bowled an economic spell of 8-0-32-1 on debut, picking the wicket of Mahmudullah.
Mulder has played 128 T20s, scoring 2172 runs in 105 innings at a strike rate of 132.92, besides picking 67 wickets. He had come into the auction at a base price of Rs 75 lakh but no team bid for him.
Hyderabad will begin their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, March 23 at home.
