Former India cricketer Vinay Kumar has hit back at the former Indian cricketer-turned-pundit, Sanjay Manjrekar for his comments during commentary on Day 3 of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Manjrekar, while on commentary duty, categorized Kumar as a medium pacer and credited his success in the domestic format to the prevalence of grassy wickets there.

“But I think that’s gone, but what it also did was medium pacers like the Vinay Kumars, with no disrespect to him, were topping the wicket-taking charts because all they needed to do with grass on the pitch was put the ball at 120 kmph in the right area, and they got a wicket," Manjrekar said on air, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Kumar, who has experience in both domestic and international formats, did not take Manjrekar’s comments kindly and hit back with a fiery post on his official X account.

“Sanjay bhai with due respect, your speed gun requires urgent servicing. 120 KMPH? Seriously? With God’s grace I take pride in my achievements, I am contented, satisfied and happy with my life," he wrote.

“Medium pacer like Vinay Kumar has worked hard to become the 1st Indian fast bowler to take 100 IPL wickets and also played for the country in all the formats. I take pride in my bowling. Anyways best wishes and regards," he added.

Kumar had represented India in all three formats during his playing days. He picked up 1, 38 and 10 wickets in Test, ODIs and T20Is respectively. In the domestic format, he has 504 wickets in the first-class format, 225 in List-A Cricket and 194 in T20s as well.

Recently Manjrekar was publicly called out for his comments on the Indian fast-bowling veteran, Mohammed Shami. He believed that Shami would not have such a big price tag due to his recent injury issues, a comment which Shami did not appreciate.

It is confirmed that Shami will now switch to Sunrisers Hyderabad after the franchise bid for Shami’s services at Rs 10 Crore, which is a decent price tag considering that he is back to bowling at full throttle again.
