Star Indian batter Virat Kohli created history on Tuesday (March 4) by becoming the first player in the world to register 24 50+ scores in ICC ODI events. Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 23 50+ scores in the ongoing first semifinal match of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia in Dubai by completing his 74th ODI fifty.

Kohli has played in eight ICC ODI events (4 ODI World Cups and 4 Champions Trophies) for India, and in 54 matches, he has crossed the 50-run mark on 24 occasions.

Before breaking Sachin’s all-time record, Kohli went past Dhawan’s tally of 701 runs to become the Men in Blue’s leading run scorer in the Champions Trophy.
Kohli needed 40 runs in the first semifinal to break Dhawan’s record, and he achieved the feat by taking a single on the fourth ball of the 24th over of India’s innings bowled by Glenn Maxwell.
