'Will Create A Legacy Of Winning ICC Trophies For India': U-19 World Cup-Winning Skipper Niki Prasad
Giving a strong message after leading India to the 2025 U19 World Cup, Niki Prasad said her team wants to create a 'legacy' of ICC trophies for the country.

The 2025 Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper Niki Prasad said her team came to the tournament wanting to ‘ensure India stays on top’ and now, after sealing the title with a nine-wicket win over South Africa, they are eager to ‘create a legacy of winning ICC trophies’ with ‘a lot of’ such triumphs for the country.
Prasad, who was left out of the inaugural women’s Under-19 World Cup in 2023, led the team to its second title on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur. India lost the toss but used the conditions well to bowl South Africa out for just 82 runs in the first innings. Telangana’s Gongadi Trisha took three wickets and then top-scored in the second innings with a relentless 33-ball 44 to help India chase the target in just 11.2 overs.

“I think all of us tried to stay calm and down to earth," Prasad said after the match. “We just stuck to doing what our job is. If we had won the toss, we might have picked batting too. But we wanted to just go out there and do the job. All the credit goes to our support staff for making this possible and nurturing the youngsters. BCCI has given us the best facilities."
“I am feeling really happy that I am here, making sure India stays on top. It’s a special moment to play the World Cup and do this for India. At the start of the tournament, I mentioned that were here to dominate and ensure India stays on top. We’re definitely going to create that legacy of winning ICC trophies and winning a lot of trophies for India. The South Africans have been playing really well. They came hard at us today. We’ve played against them a lot, and the character they’ve shown is really nice to see and nice to compete against them," she added.
Trisha, who was awarded the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series for her consistent showings throughout India’s unbeaten run, also reflected the same feelings.
“I would like to dedicate this award to my father," she said. “Without him, I wouldn’t be here. I’ve been working on my power game for a while. Our batting coach Apurva sir told me I will be opening the innings and asked me to be ready. I am always an allrounder. I want to play for my country and keep winning matches."
