Supriya Sule, working president of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), said the Maharashtra polls are not a battle between her father Sharad Pawar and cousin and deputy chief minister (CM) Ajit Pawar, but an ideological one.

While the Sharad Pawar faction is in alliance with the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress as Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Ajit Pawar has joined hands with the Shinde Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Mahayuti.

Responding to Ajit Pawar’s comment that he has been isolated in the family, Sule said, “98% of the family is on one side. It is a choice he has a made. He is a senior citizen, he should have known of the choice he made."

She further added, “We should go by data on every position of power in the past 25 years…Sharad Pawar made Ajit Pawar the deputy CM four times."

On allegations that Sharad Pawar knew of the 2019 swearing-in of Fadnavis along with Ajit Pawar, Sule said, “It is laughable…Had Sharad Pawar known that, the Fadnavis-Ajit Pawar government would have lasted five years."

According to Sule, Sharad Pawar’s legacy will not be taken forward by one person. “…Just because we are related by blood. Every person who is present here will take his legacy further," she said, adding, “Thirty years ago, Sharad Pawar launched Ajit Pawar. Now, he is launching Yugendra. You must allow new talent to take over. When Sharad Pawar was in his 50s, he launched Ajit Pawar, who was then in his 20s. The same thing is happening again."

    SULE TAKES ON MAHAYUTI

Sule said the BJP, while making promises, has not done substantial work on reservation. “Maratha, Dhangar, Muslim, Lingayat and other communities are asking for reservation. The BJP had promised them. I had been telling them to make a comprehensive bill and we will support them. But the BJP, which has been in power for 10 years, has done nothing about it…The NCP is supporting reservation for all these communities."

Even as the Mahayuti boasts of Ladki Bahin scheme, Sule said, “We had introduced the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, it was way ahead of its time. They introduced this scheme because they did miserably in the Lok Sabha elections.

About cotton and soybean farmers, Sule said, “Farmers are distressed and it is the fault of this government. It is one of the big issues. The central and state governments should have paid MSP, which they didn’t. When we were in power, we gave Rs 7,000-8,000…If we come back, we will go it again and gladly do it."

Sule said the BJP and its allies keep changing their stance and their campaign is “directionless". “Batenge To Katenge is an unfortunate campaign. This is not what India or Maharashtra is all about. The BJP and allies have gone to that low a level," she said.

According to Sule, Mahayuti leaders have insulted Shivaji by their loose comments. “The falling down of Shivaji’s statue because of bad planning has hurt people the most. People in media said there was corruption in it. It is unfortunate that a government does not spare Shivaji."

When asked about PM Narendra Modi’s comment that those who see Messiah in the name of those who killed Sambhaji Maharaj are standing against Maharashtra and Maratha pride, Sule said, “

I don’t know who he was referring to."

    ON NCP SP, MVA

Amid the fight for symbol, Sule said, “Maharashtra has voted assertively for the tutari symbol (NCP SP), which means it has reached people. I won by massive margain of 1.6 lakh, which means the symbol has reached voters."

When asked who the CM face of MVA will be, she said, “You will know in 10 days…"

According to Sule, this is what the MVA is promising. “No corrupt government, transparent and good governance. We fight against corruption, price rise, inflation and unemployment."

Maharashtra will go for polls on November 20 and the counting of votes will take place on November 23.
