La Liga holders Real Madrid lost ground in the race for the Spanish top-flight title as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Real Betis on Saturday, to give rivals Barcelona the opportunity to claim the top of the league standings with a win against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Brahim Diaz opened the scoring for the capital city giants before strikes from Johnny Cardoso and Isco turned the tide around as the Andalusian side picked up all three points on offer at home.
