Bhopal Food Company Director Consumes Poison After ED Raid, In Critical Condition

After an ED raid on a company, the company director has been reported to have consumed poison. The incident came to light on Wednesday after the ED conducted raids at various locations associated with the company. Subsequently, the ED seized the company’s assets.
The 31-year-old company director attempted suicide by consuming poison the day after an ED raid, causing a stir within the industry. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Payal Modi, a director at Jayshree Gayatri Foods Private Limited in Bhopal consumed poison and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhopal. Her husband, Kishan Modi, owns the company.
The incident occurred on Wednesday following raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at various locations of Jayshree Gayatri Food Products Private Limited. The raids were conducted in Bhopal, Sehore, and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that Modi consumed poison fearing arrest after the ED raids.
In Wednesday’s raids, the ED uncovered unaccounted assets totalling Rs 66 crore, registered under various companies and family members’ names. The agency also discovered Rs 25 lakh in cash and luxury vehicles, including a BMW and a Fortuner, linked to Payal Modi’s family. These vehicles have been seized. Furthermore, the ED has frozen Rs 6.26 crore held in fixed deposits belonging to the family.
The ED alleged that Jayshree Gayatri Foods Private Limited utilised various fraudulent certificates to export adulterated milk products. These certificates, the ED claims, were originally issued to other companies or obtained through illicit means. Furthermore, the ED has seized documents related to immovable property and other assets, amounting to Rs 66 crore, held in the names of various companies and family members of Kishan Modi.
