A video of plaque of an educational institute with former Union Minister late Ram Vilas Paswan’s name being used to cover a drain in Bihar’s Hajipur triggered a row, which drew condemnation from the late leader’s son and union minister Chirag Paswan and brother Pashupati Paras.

According to the reports, the plaque, originally installed at the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) hostel, was apparently being used to cover the gutter inside the premises of the institute’s women’s hostel after its chamber cover broke.

As per the plaque, Ram Vilas, the union minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers in the then Manmohan Singh government, inaugurated the hostel of the institute on September 26, 2007. The institute is located in Hajipur, a constituency the late leader represented eight times since 1977.

Chirag expressed outrage over the incident and called it “extremely unfortunate."

“I received information through the media and journalist colleagues that the nameplate of my leader, my father, was misused in Hajipur, which is extremely unfortunate. After coming to know about this matter, I spoke to the local district administration and the officials of CIPET institute for immediate action," the LJP chief said in a post on X.

Ram Vilas Paswan’s younger brother and former union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, who represented the Hajipur seat from 2019 to 2024, sought a police case.
