With winter setting in throughout India, temperatures are steadily falling in several states, especially in North India. Delhi recorded a drop in temperature over the past 24 hours, while Punjab experienced its lowest temperature at 7°C. Fog continues to disrupt life in the plains of North India, with zero visibility reported in parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for fog in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for November 21.
Meanwhile, a deep low-pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to impact weather conditions within the next 24 hours. The IMD noted that there had been no such development in the Bay of Bengal throughout November, but this system may evolve into a storm within 24 hours.

This could impact the eastern coast of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. If the storm develops into a cyclone, it will be named Cyclone Fengal. However, the weather department stated that it is too early to make precise predictions.
The IMD said that continuous changes in the weather are being observed in North India. Cold conditions have set in across all states, with minimum temperatures remaining normal for this time of year. Fog and smog persist in Delhi-NCR, leading to schools and colleges shifting to online mode due to worsening air quality. Measures under GRAP-4 have been implemented to tackle pollution.
The meteorological department said that in the last 24 hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi remained between 23-25°C and 8-12 °C, respectively. The IMD predicts light to moderate fog in eastern Uttar Pradesh during the night and morning, with dense fog expected in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi.
The Met department also predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in peninsular India. On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal received 170 mm of rainfall, while Lakshadweep recorded 100 mm and Jal saw 70 mm. Heavy rainfall is predicted in peninsular regions over the next five to six days.
