BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday addressed a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting him to initiate a Privilege Motion against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for claiming on the floor of Parliament that Chinese troops were present on Indian soil.

The Congress leader’s claim on China border row triggered an uproar in Lok Sabha yesterday with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing him of “misleading the house."

Dubey, in his letter to the Speaker, said that Rahul Gandhi “not only shamelessly distorted the historical and substantive facts in his speech but also attempted to ridicule our country and lower the prestige of our Republic".

Speaking during the debate on Motion of Thanks on Monday, Gandhi sharply criticised the Centre, asserting that the “failure" of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative was to blame for the presence of Chinese troops on Indian soil.

Further pressing on the India-China border issue, Gandhi declared that Beijing is now “sitting on over 4,000 sq km of our land". He also claimed the Army had contradicted the government’s assertion – that no land had been surrendered to China.

“The Prime Minister has denied it and the Army has contradicted the Prime Minister that China is sitting on 4000 sq km of our territory," he said.

In response, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanded evidence for the claim, stating, “You will have to present the evidence of what you are speaking in the House."

Gandhi further triggered controversy in the Lok Sabha by alleging that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the US in December 2024 to request an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend Donald Trump’s January 20 inauguration.

The Congress leader also raised doubts about Mahayuti’s victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and called for data from the Election Commission, stating, “So we can see where voters were added." He claimed that more voters were added in just five months than in the previous five years.
