Explore Siachen, Galwan & Longewala: Govt Launches App For India's Battlefield Tourism
The tourists can now visit the battlefield sites where Indian Army scripted history in the different battlefields. The government has opened the doors of such sites for battlefield tourism.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has launched the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan app aiming to boost battlefield tourism in the country. The citizens, using the app, can now add several historical places, including Siachen – the world’s highest battlefield – and Galwan – the site where the Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed in 2020 – to their holiday plans.
Longewala, the site of the 1971 India-Pakistan battle which was brought to the silver screen in JP Dutta’s iconic film ‘Border’, is a must-visit for tourists in Jaisalmer. The visitors at the War Memorial in Longewala pay respects to the fallen Indian soldiers and watch a documentary on the 1971 war.

How Can You Explore India’s Battlefields?
The app offers a comprehensive guide to tourists, which include historical insights, battle accounts, stories of bravery, and applications for permissions. Some significant sites include the Galwan Valley, and Doklam – the site of a standoff over Chinese road construction in 2017.
Other key sites include Siachen where tourists can visit the Base Camp up to 15,000 ft., and Kargil where Indian Army fought the Pakistani army and defeated them to recapture its spots. Kargil also has the Dras War Memorial where tourists can pay homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the battle.
Longewala is another historic site where the Indian Army thrashed the incoming enemy.
The initiative also encompasses sites such as Kibithoo and Bum-La in Arunachal Pradesh, Rezang-La, and Pangong Tso in Ladakh, as well as the Cho-La clash site in Sikkim. It seeks to invigorate local economies, educate visitors, instill a sense of patriotism, and provide an authentic account of India’s military history.
