Yoga is a combination of physical exercises and spirituality, and the International Yoga Day underlines its importance in maintaining a balanced lifestyle, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said on Friday.

A state-level function was held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day.

Governor Kalraj Mishra, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa attended the programme organized by the National Institute of Ayurveda.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor and DDA chairman VK Saxena on Friday performed yoga at Baansera on the bank of Yamuna River on the occasion of International Yoga Day, a statement said.

Several diplomats, ambassadors and embassies in India joined the Yoga Day celebrations here on Friday with German envoy Philipp Ackermann describing yoga as highly introspective that also connects people as “mindful human beings”.

The International Yoga Day was celebrated in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday with Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd), Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and various ministers participating in events organised across the state.

The chief minister urged the people of the state to practice yoga for a healthy society.

“yoga, a person can imbibe some very good qualities like courage which protects like a father, forgiveness as possessed by a mother and mental peace which becomes a permanent friend,” Khandu posted on X after performing yoga at an event in Itanagar.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav on Friday said yoga not only boosts physical and mental health but also promotes unity and harmony in the society.

Jadhav, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ayush ministry, was addressing a gathering at the 10th International Yoga Day event that was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SKICC Srinagar.

“This year’s theme is yoga for self and society which highlights yoga’s dual role in fostering individual and societal well-being. It nurtures physical, mental, and spiritual growth while promoting societal harmony,” the minister said.

Addressing a gathering on the 10th International Yoga Day on the banks of Dal Lake here, the prime minister cited a competition held in Egypt wherein yoga was used to promote tourism in the North African country.

“I recently saw a video from Egypt. They organised a competition and awarded the best yoga photographs and videos from iconic tourist places in the country. In the pictures and videos, I saw girls from Egypt standing in front of the iconic Pyramids doing yoga, it was so attractive.

“For Kashmir, yoga can become such a big source of livelihood. It can become a centre of attraction for tourists,” Modi told the yoga practitioners on the lawns of SKICC on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar.

The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated across Bihar on Friday with Governor Rajendra V Arlekar, Deputy Chief Ministers and other state ministers attending the main events in the state capital. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day in the state on Friday.

For the first time after the BJP formed government in Odisha, the day was celebrated across the state in a big way on Friday morning to highlight the importance of the ancient practice of yoga.

The chief minister led the main event at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar. He performed yoga and addressed the huge gathering of students, officials and other individuals. Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena also participated in the event.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday asked people to make yoga an integral part of their lives to keep diseases at bay.

Yoga is a way of life. In the next two months, the state government will open ‘Vyayamshalas’ at 100 more places where yoga could be practised daily by people under supervision of instructors, he said while addressing a gathering in Hisar.

“Through yoga we can keep diseases at bay. Even during the Covid crisis, we saw how yoga benefitted people immensely before the vaccine was available,” he said.

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said yoga is India’s unique gift to humanity, and it has become far more important because of rising lifestyle-related problems. She, along with other officials of the President’s Secretariat, also performed yoga at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

“Greetings to the entire global community, especially the fellow citizens of India on International Yoga Day! Yoga is India’s unique gift to humanity. In view of rising lifestyle related problems, Yoga has become far more important today.

“Yoga is a way to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Let us resolve to adopt yoga as an integral part of our day-to-day living,” the president said in a post on X and shared pictures of her doing yoga.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday appealed to citizens to make yoga an integral part of their daily lives. Speaking at an event in the Marine Drive area in Mumbai to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga, Shinde said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Baba Ramdev have popularised yoga worldwide”.

“Citizens must make yoga an integral part of their daily lives. Everyone must practise it daily, and not just one day,” he said.

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday said his government will establish 51 ‘Yoga Studios’ across the state to promote the ancient practice which “benefited people immensely” during COVID.

The CM was at Nadabet in Banaskantha district near the India-Pakistan border to take part in the state-level event to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga. Several state ministers and Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary attended the event at Nadabet. This is the first time Yoga Day is being celebrated at Nadabet, according to an official release.

Over three hundred people from across Israel rolled out yoga mats and performed asanas as they participated in International Yoga Day celebrations at the Peres Centre for Peace and Innovation in Tel Aviv. First Lady Michal Herzog was the chief guest at the main International Yoga Day event on Thursday. A series of events were held across the country.

The event was organised by the Embassy of India in Israel in association with the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Israel. At the event, Herzog spoke about the deep friendship between India and Israel.
