In a shocking revelation during police interrogation, Muskan Rastogi, the wife of Meerut-based Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput, made chilling confessions, admitting that she had plunged a butcher’s knife into her husband’s chest while he lay in deep sleep. What followed was an act of unimaginable brutality: with her lover Sahil Shukla by her side, she dismembered Saurabh’s body, packed it into a plastic drum, and sealed it with cement—turning their home into the scene of a horrifying crime.

Muskan and her lover Sahil have been sent to 14-day judicial custody while Muskan’s parents Kavita and Pramod Rastogi, expressed shock and disbelief over their daughter’s involvement in the murder, stating, “She is dead to us. She has done something that cannot be forgiven. She must be hanged."

As the case unfolds, the streets of Meerut are boiling with rage. Outside the courthouse, an enraged mob of lawyers and locals tried to attack Muskan and Sahil as they were escorted in, with police barely managing to control the chaos.

Meanwhile, new revelations continue to emerge, painting a picture of a murder planned with chilling precision.

    The Plot

According to police sources, Muskan had been planning Saurabh’s murder since November last year, aided and abetted by Sahil. When Saurabh, who worked for a US-based company, was set to return home in February, the couple began making preparations.

“She bought two long-bladed knives, claiming they were for cutting chicken. She also obtained banned sedatives from a local drug store," said a police official.

Their first attempt on February 25 failed. Saurabh ate food laced with sedatives but only fell into a deep sleep rather than losing consciousness. Determined to finish what they had planned, they tried again on March 4. That night, Muskan mixed the sedatives into his meal, ensuring he was unconscious. Then, with Sahil present, she took a butcher’s knife, climbed on to her sleeping husband, and plunged the blade into his chest. Sahil assisted by applying additional pressure, ensuring the knife went deep enough to be fatal. They stabbed him multiple times to confirm his death.

    A Grisly Aftermath

After the murder, the couple had to dispose of the body. Inspired by a previous crime in Meerut where multiple victims’ bodies were hidden inside beds, they initially tried the same approach. However, Saurabh’s body did not fit.

“They then decided to cut his body into four pieces—severing his head, arms, and torso—and packed them into a plastic drum," said SP Ayush Vikram Singh. “To prevent decomposition and odour, they poured cement and sand into the drum, sealing it completely."

With the crime concealed, Muskan and Sahil left for a vacation to Himachal Pradesh on March 6, spending 13 days in Shimla and Manali, posting Instagram photos and videos to mislead their family and neighbours. They even got married at a local temple during this trip.

    The Unraveling of a Crime

Upon returning to Meerut on March 17, Muskan visited her parents. Her six-year-old daughter, who had been staying with her grandmother, kept asking about her father. It was then that Muskan shockingly confessed to her mother.

“She told us, ‘Mummy, we killed Saurabh,’" said Muskan’s mother, Kavita Rastogi. The horrified parents immediately took their daughter to the police station and had her arrested.

The police raided Muskan’s rented house in Indira Nagar, where they found the cement-filled drum. “We had to use a drill machine to break the concrete. What we discovered inside was horrifying," said a senior officer.

Sahil and Muskan were arrested and charged under multiple sections of the IPC, including murder, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy.

A Marriage Doomed from the Start

Muskan and Saurabh’s love story had begun in 2016 when they defied family opposition to marry. Saurabh left his parents and their property worth crores to be with her. They later moved into a rented house in Indira Nagar, raising their daughter together.

However, cracks began appearing in their marriage. In 2019, Muskan reconnected with Sahil, a former schoolmate, via a WhatsApp group. Their friendship quickly turned into an affair. When Saurabh found out, tensions rose, and divorce was discussed. But Saurabh, thinking about their daughter’s future, chose to stay and attempted to salvage the marriage.

Muskan and Sahil, however, had different plans.

    Public Outrage

The brutal nature of the crime has left locals in shock. Many gathered outside the courthouse, demanding the harshest punishment. “This is beyond heinous. She didn’t just kill him; she planned it meticulously. The death penalty is the only justice," said a local resident, Rajesh Sharma.

The attack on Muskan and Sahil by lawyers reflects the widespread anger over the crime. “The entire bar association condemns such a brutal act. Many of us couldn’t control our emotions when we saw them," said advocate Vinod Tyagi.

Even her own family has disowned her. “She got him to leave everything for her, and in return, she betrayed and killed him. We stand with Saurabh’s family," said Muskan’s father.

Saurabh’s relatives are determined to seek justice. “He was blindly in love with her. She did not deserve him. Now she must face the law," said one of his cousins.

However, the cops associated with the case said they are preparing to file a strong charge sheet. The evidence, including forensic reports, CCTV footage, and phone records, is being compiled to ensure swift justice. “We have a watertight case. The crime was premeditated, and we have concrete evidence, including their confessions," said SP Ayush Vikram Singh.

Meanwhile, Saurabh’s six-year-old daughter keeps asking about her father’s whereabouts, but her questions remain painfully unanswered. “She keeps asking where he is. How do we find the words to tell her that her own mother took his life," lamented Pramod Rastogi, Muskan’s father.
