Choksi’s home is in Gokul Apartment in Malabar Hill, one of Mumbai’s most prestigious neighbourhoods. News18’s visit revealed walls plastered with legal notices from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Income Tax Department, banks, and courts. The home spans 7,000 square feet across the 9th, 10th, and 11th floors, valued at approximately Rs 70 crore.
Despite its grandeur, the residence is mired in financial and legal troubles. A building society member told News18 that Choksi has outstanding society bills amounting to Rs 3 crore, prompting the society to consider notifying the ED.
This property, symbolic of Choksi’s once opulent lifestyle, now stands as a testament to his legal woes. The ED has already seized several of his assets, casting doubt on the future of this Mumbai residence.
Mehul Choksi, who fled India in 2018, faces charges in the PNB scam, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, who is currently in the UK. Indian authorities are also seeking Modi’s extradition.
