Rs 100 Bet Ends In Tragedy As Two Schoolboys Drown In Haryana's Yamuna Nagar

A harmless bet worth a mere Rs 100 cost two young students their lives in a devastating tragedy that unfolded in Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar district. The incident took place on Friday afternoon when a group of seventeen Class 8 students from a government school in Model Town ventured to the Western Yamuna Canal for a swim after finishing their final exam.
Among them, two boys – identified as Lucky, a resident of Hamida, and Krishna – made a fatal wager on who could cross the canal first. Unaware of the canal’s treacherous depths, the boys dived in, but their adventure quickly turned into a desperate struggle as they were unable to stay afloat. Neither of them knew how to swim, and within moments, they were swept away by the water’s powerful current.

Their panicked classmates, witnessing the harrowing scene, scrambled out of the water and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the spot, and the police were immediately notified. A rescue operation was launched with the help of divers, the boys remained missing.
Investigating officer Rajesh Kumar stated that efforts were in full swing to locate the missing students. The police have seized the boys’ belongings from the canal bank and informed their grieving families. “All the children were bathing when this unfortunate incident occurred. We have deployed divers and are conducting a thorough search," Kumar said.
Meanwhile, the remaining 15 children were questioned by the police to piece together the chain of events. According to one of the students, the bet seemed like harmless fun, but it swiftly spiraled into a nightmare as the two boys disappeared in the water.
