'Saif Ali Khan Could've Been Unhurt If...': Police Probe Role Of 'Scared, Hiding' Male Staffers
Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: A team of local police and Crime Branch took the accused to Saif Ali Khan's residence to recreate the crime scene on Tuesday morning and drew several conclusions.
Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Mumbai Police on Tuesday recreated the crime scene with Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, the accused arrested in the knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at the Bollywood’s actor residence in upscale Bandra.
A team of 20 officials reached Khan’s Satguru Sharan building in four police vans around 5.30 am and were on the premises for an hour, collecting at least 19 fingerprints. Police also took the accused to the Bandra railway station, from where he had taken a train to Dadar and to a place outside a garden where he had slept after the attack.

Mumbai police drew several conclusions after recreating the crime scene and going to places the accused had visited while on the run. Fakir was brought back to Bandra police station, where officials will interrogate him further.
Most alarmingly, police deduced that four male staff members were present in Khan’s house during the attack, but allegedly did not intervene when the accused stabbed Khan multiple times in the early hours of January 16, which necessitated a 2.5-hour long surgery.
Why Did Saif Ali Khan’s Male Staffers Fail To Protect Him?
According to Mumbai Police, the accused had entered Khan’s Bandra West apartment with the intention of theft. At the time of the attack, four male staffers were present upstairs in the house.
However, when female staffers screamed after Khan was attacked, the male employees were frightened and one of them hid inside the house. The rest of them did not try to help the actor when he was attacked and the actor was saved thanks to swift action by the female staffers, who locked the accused in a room.
According to police, had the four employees resisted the attack, Saif Ali Khan would not have been stabbed. This serious security lapse nearly cost the actor his life, as doctors at Lilavati Hospital said Khan escaped a serious injury by millimetres.
Attacker’s Bangladeshi Roots
Mumbai Police has contacted the accused’s family in Bangladesh and asked for his birth certificate information from his brother based there. Police have preliminarily guessed that the accused has many crimes registered against him, even in Bangladesh.
The accused, arrested on Sunday, initially tried to mislead investigators by claiming that he is a Kolkata resident. However, police nailed his lie and secured his school leaving certificate from his Bangladesh-based brother on his mobile phone, which has become strong evidence that Fakir is from Bangladesh, an official told news agency PTI.
How Did The Accused Enter Khan’s Apartment?
Police said the accused took great precautions in invading Saif Ali Khan’s house, with CCTV footage showing that he was not wearing any slippers or shoes while going up the building. However, he was wearing boots on his way down.
Mumbai Police theorised that the accused Shariful Islam Shehzad climbed the stairs to the tenth floor of Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra West Apartment, then proceeded to climb to the 11th floor, where the actor was residing, via the bathroom of his son Jehangir’s room.
There was no grill on the bathroom window, so the accused climbed the pipe from the 10th floor using a duct tape. After the attack, Shehzad was locked in the room by female staffers who came from outside, after which he escaped the same way by climbing down from the bathroom to the tenth floor and going down the stairs.
Saif Ali Khan Expected To Be Discharged Today
Meanwhile, the actor, may be discharged from Lilavati Hospital today. Actor’s sister Saba took to Instagram to share his health update, and added the incident reminds Saif and her of “abba’s (father’s) cricket injuries". Saba too had fractured her finger recently.
Mumbai police may record the Bollywood actor’s statement after his discharge. The officers have already recorded his actor-wife Kareena Kapoor’s statement, while the attacker was taken to their home in the posh Bandra West locality for recreation of crime scene.
Police said the accused who stabbed Khan had been residing in Mumbai for over five months, working odd jobs and associated with a housekeeping agency.
