A disturbing case involving a recent marriage has emerged from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh. A newly married woman, whose family was initially pleased about her marriage to a doctor, now finds herself in a troubling situation.
Within 10 days of her wedding, the bride filed charges of assault and dowry harassment against seven members of her husband’s family, including her doctor husband.

The complaint was lodged at the Sadar Kotwali police station. In her statement, the victim detailed the assault. She explained that she wed Dr Ratnesh Gupta on February 12, following Hindu traditions.
Following the ceremony, she went to her in-laws’ residence with optimism, but there she allegedly faced dowry-related harassment and physical abuse. Despite her parents’ efforts to resolve the issue, the mistreatment continued.
Later, on February 19, the bride travelled to Goa with her husband for their honeymoon. She alleged that her husband physically assaulted her in their accommodation at midnight and even tried to choke her.
After being informed of the situation, the victim’s parents promptly arranged a flight and brought their daughter home on February 22. Upon returning, the victim submitted a complaint at the Sadar Kotwali police station, filing charges against her husband and seven others from his family.
Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena confirmed that a case has been registered under multiple sections, including assault and dowry harassment, based on the bride’s complaint. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will follow based on the findings.
