Allu Arjun Was 'Scared' When Sukumar Told Him About Pushpa 2 Jathara Scene: 'Even If He's Dressed In Sari...'
In a recent interview, Pushpa 2 star Allu Arjun opened up about the Gangamma Jathara sequence, and the conversation he had with director Sukumar about it.
Allu Arjun left fans amazed with his performance in ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, especially during the Gangamma Jathara sequence, in which his character Pushpa Raj, dressed in a saree, captivates the audience with his powerful performance. In a recent interview, Allu Arjun opened up about the Jathara sequence, revealing the conversation he had with director Sukumar about it. He said that when the filmmaker initially told him about the sequence, he was scared.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter India, Allu Arjun said, “Well, one thing about the Jathara sequence is that, in short, when he initially told me, I was scared. Yeah, that was the first reaction. We had finished a very macho photoshoot, and he said, “It’s not working." Then he said, “I want you to wear a sari, dress like a lady." We started doing sketches. And then we could see it. And I started buying into the idea, because there’s always a fear in the beginning. First, there was fear, and then there was exploration." He further added that after a point, they knew that this would be the USP of the film, and that it would be a challenge for him as an actor.

“If I do this, I will walk away with a huge, how do I say, with a great name. Only one thing that Sukumar garu (sir) and I thought was that even if he’s dressed in a sari, he has to look very, very macho, the alpha-ness should not be lost," he said. When asked how he kept the ‘alpha-ness’ while dressed in a saree, he said, “Alpha-ness is in the mind. You can’t take the alpha-ness away. That’s an inherent trait."
‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ is directed by Sukumar and features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings with music on T Series. The film was released in theatres on 5th December 2024. The film went on to shatter box office records.
