Amrish Puri Was Brutally Injured In Bike Scene, Recalls Jaal Director: 'His Eyes Were Damaged'
Director Guddu Dhanoa shared a 2003 incident from the set of Jaal where a bike stunt went wrong, injuring Sunny Deol and nearly costing Amrish Puri his eye.
Sunny Deol has done his fair share of action scenes throughout his long career, but here’s a crazy story. Director Guddu Dhanoa, who worked with Sunny on films like Ziddi, Salaakhen, and Jaal, recently shared an incident from the set of Jaal in 2003. Apparently, a bike stunt went terribly wrong, leaving both Sunny and veteran actor Amrish Puri injured. In fact, Amrish was hurt so badly that he nearly lost his eye!
In a recent chat with Friday Talkies, Guddu Dhanoa recalled what went wrong during the stunt. He mentioned, “We were shooting a motorcycle sequence in Manali. To shoot such scenes, we often fix a machine in the motorcycle so that the actor can focus on his dialogues and doesn’t have to ride the bike. During the scene, the motorcycle went down. Due to this, Amrish ji fell on ground, while Sunny was dragged by the bike for some distance."

In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, Guddu Dhanoa recalled what went wrong during the stunt. He said, “I rushed to Sunny and asked him if he was alright. He said, ‘I am okay. Please go check on Amrish ji.’ I went to Amrish sir and saw him lying on the ground. His eyes were completely damaged." The filmmaker took him to an army hospital in Manali.
Guddu shared that he had a close bond with Amrish ji, as the actor had been guiding him since his first film as a director, and they were like father and son. He recalled, “I had formed a relationship with Amrish ji as he guided me since my first film as a director. We were more like father-son. I didn’t have the courage to go see him after that accident. His eyes had bandages over it. When I went to him, I held his hands. And as soon as I held his hands, he recognised me and said, ‘Guddu, everything will be alright.’"
