A clip featuring Dua Lipa performing Levitating X Woh Ladki at her recent concert in Mumbai has gone viral. The inclusion of the song from Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Baadshah’ left netizens elated, particularly the Bollywood superstar’s fans, who couldn’t stop praising his star power. However, it didn’t sit well with Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s son Jay, who took to social media and rued how his father wasn’t being given credit for it. Bhattacharya, who had sung the song in Baadshah, exclusively told us that he wishes Anu Malik, the composer of Woh Ladki Jo, was given credit as it is ‘one of his finest songs’.

Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Malik says that he looks at the whole scenario in a ‘positive light’. “Dua Lipa is a very, very talented and famous singer. It’s an honour. I feel, credit is important and people should know that Woh Ladki Jo is an Anu Malik song and that Abhijeet has sung it. But it’s a good feeling that she took the song to the stage, and we’re getting the feeling that we, as musicians, are being respected all over the world and that my tunes are swaying over the hearts and minds of a top singer!" he remarks.

Talking about the number of messages he received after the clip went viral, he says, “I saw Dua Lipa’s performance. The whole world, including my daughter, sent me this clip saying, ‘You’re everywhere. Dua Lipa is dancing to your song.’ I was very happy with it. I’ve nothing against it. She’s a great performer. She was terrific on stage. She amalgamated my tune with her performance and the production in a very nice way."

However, he still wishes that people refer to the performance as not just Lipa’s set but also mention his name along with Bhattacharya’s. “We can only request them to give us the rightful credit. Aaj kal toh hum sirf haath jodke request karte hain. I’m not someone who creates controversies. We’re very proud Indians who’re happy that our song has reached a global stage. I would like to tell Dua Lipa, well done! I congratulate her. I’m very happy that my tunes are loved all over the world," Malik states.

He added, “I’m grateful that my composed song is a rage and has gone viral from the film Badshah. But it must also be said that Shah Rukh Khan’s presence and popularity took my composed song to another level. I thank Dua Lipa for making this song more popular than it already is, and for recognising the immense talent of musicians from our great country, India, with me being one of them."

The music director also said that he wants to know the source of the collaboration. He said, “I want to know how they got the rights of the song from the company and if they mentioned mine and Abhijeet’s name or if they just took it off the rack. I don’t know the whole story. All I know is that people are celebrating the fact that my song was used by Dua Lipa so well. People are also loving the production. I love how my tune plays in the background."

But there’s one thing that has ‘saddened’ Malik. “Many people are telling me that it’s an unlikely and unusual collaboration. But I didn’t like these words. What did they mean by ‘unlikely and unusual’? They should be proud that Anu Malik is a very hardworking composer from India, the most talented country. I’ve been working for 47 years and I’m so happy that my melody is being played all over the world," he tells us.

Malik adds, “There was a song called Chamma Chamma that was used in the film, Moulin Rouge. Aaja Na Chhu Le Meri Chunari Sanam was used in the film, Monsoon Wedding. I’ve given music in Gurinder Chadha’s Bride & Prejudice. Balle Balle is played at every marriage functions till date. So, when they call it an ‘unlikely combo’, I don’t know what to say. I think respect should be given where it’s due."
