It is truly a competitive time in movie theatres with the latest releases like Moana 2, Wicked and Gladiator 2 in the race alongside the re-release of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which has also received an enormous demand despite hitting theatres nearly a decade after its original release. The Christopher Nolan film came back to the US, re-releasing in IMAX format on Friday, December 13 amid high anticipation which led ticket prices to sell with a profit margin of 900 percent, leaving fans struggling to find a ticket for themselves.

As per Variety, Interstellar’s tickets were sold for as high as $200 in contrast to a standard IMAX ticket that generally costs $25, which means they are being sold at nearly 900 per cent more expensive. The film not only sold out all of its initial screenings of 166 screens across the US, it eventually forced exhibitors to clear space and put on more showings.

Reacting to the overwhelming response to the film, filmmaker Christopher Nolan spoke to The Associated Press and shared his gratitude. “It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens. It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life."

Noting that he has observed many new people coming to watch the film in theatres, Nolan added, “A lot of people were young. It was clear to me that they had seen the film at home and hadn’t had the chance to watch it on the big screen."
